Gres Porcelain: 5 Trends to Follow in 2024

Asking yourself what the latest trends are for 2024 when it comes to gres porcelain flooring and wall tile? In this article, we’ll explore five leading trends to provide inspiration for your next project.

Just as the fashion world is influenced by trends, with designers who introduce new colors and shapes from season to season, so too is the world of tile characterized by popular trends that steal the spotlight from time to time.

Some of these turn out to be passing fads while others are enduring trends that come to characterize a certain historical period or even a well-defined style of interior design.

In this article, we’ll discover the leading tends that are influencing tile manufacturers working with gres porcelain. In some cases, we see trends that have been on our radar for several years, while in others, we see brand new trends that have only recently begun to emerge on the tile scene.

Let’s take a closer look.

3D Tiles

Tiles with a 3D effect are ceramic tiles designed to add depth to walls, creating dynamic and elegant chiaroscuro effects with typical bas-relief techniques.

3D effect ceramic surfaces are increasingly used in interior design, both for solid walls and decorative patterns. Thanks to their versatility, they adapt perfectly to many different types of spaces, ranging from residential to commercial.

The sculptural and highly scenic aspect of this type of wall tile is capable of creating unique personality in any space. Today, there are many manufacturers that offer 3D options in their tile catalogs, both with geometric and abstract shapes, and even with natural materials such as wood or stone.

Nature and Floral Themes

Floral graphics, botanical patterns, and references to wild nature are growing into an increasingly important part of the offerings of ceramic tile manufacturers.

Natural and floral themes are highly popular at the moment and will continue to be one of the main trends in the world of gres porcelain in 2024.

Furthermore, large format tiles allow you to cover extensive spaces with graphics that evoke nature, characterized by lush vegetation, exotic animals, and vibrant colors, creating a sensation of being fully immersed in the greenery.

As always, when it comes to graphics rich in detail and with a strong visual impact, our advice is to limit their use to a maximum of two consecutive walls to avoid excessively weighing down the environment.

The Richness and Opulence of Large Slabs

One of the leading tile trends over the last few years, which, by the way, has shown no signs of slowing down, is the use of large format tile and slabs. Large format tiles (we took a closer look here) are highly versatile and are increasingly used as countertops in the kitchen or on a vanity, as well as simply for cladding furniture of many different kinds.

One of the trends that is garnering the most attention at the moment is the use of slabs to create a huge scenic effect. This trend is capable of infusing a space with a sense of richness and opulence typical of the most precious finishes.

Marble-effect porcelain comes to mind, such as a sumptuous Calacatta with golden veining or a Marquinha black marble, not to mention onyx-effect slabs or the elegant and classic travertine effect.

Thanks to these luxurious finishes, we can transform any space into our very own palace, while elevating our kitchen and furniture selections at the same time.

Vibrant Colors vs. Soft Pastel Shades

One of the main trends in tile in 2024 revolves around colors. On the one hand, we’re seeing soft pastel colors like sage green and blush pink (or even Pantone’s Peach Fuzz which we discussed here); warm, welcoming, and joyful colors that are perfect for a young and fresh home, capable of providing brightness to a space and allowing for originality, without overdoing it.

On the other hand, we are seeing tiles (especially large slabs) with strong, sharp, and vibrant hues like petrol blue or burnt orange. In this case, these tiles provide strong personality, are highly evocative, and perfectly define the style of a space by immediately catching the eye of any visitor. Here, our advice is not to overuse these colors but to limit them to a single wall or architectural element, infusing the room with the right energy without weighing it down.

Boho Chic

The Boho Chic style draws inspiration from the hippie culture of the 1960s and 70s but has only become truly trendy in interior design over the last 20 years. In the Boho Chic style, modern design blends with vintage elements, reclaimed objects, and global décor, with pieces from distant travels.

In these eclectic and stimulating environments, wood-effect porcelain tiles fit perfectly, especially rustic wood with a lived-in and vintage flavor.

Boho chic taste is also found in the so-called “cementine” tiles; colorful and with clear retro influence, these cementine  tiles are perfect for a boho chic interior, whether on the floor, the wall, or even smaller areas like a kitchen backsplash or wall niche. Cementine tiles also bend very well with other materials such as wood effect, concrete, or resin.

In this article, we have explored some of the main trends currently shaping the gres porcelain tile industry, from large slabs to 3D tiles, to cemetine tiles typical of the Boho chic style.
